The district of Nysa is situated in the south-western part of the Opolskie Province. It consists of 9 communes and covers the total area of around 1224 km2. It is estimated that around 143, 900 inhabitants live in the Nysa District.
The major natural resources of Nysa include the mineral resources such as the deposits of aggregates, gravel, sand, marbles, and stone. The industry centres are mainly in Nysa, Głuchołazy and Paczków.
The landscape diversity of the Nysa District may be discovered on foot, by bike, or horseback. The main attractions involve Nysa Lake, Otmuchowskie Lake and Paczków Reservoir as well as the picturesque Opawskie Mountains, four nature reserves, and about 340 km of marked biking paths. Furthermore, there is abundance of interesting monuments and museums. Prussian fortresses, which determined the magnitude of the Nysa Fortress in the past, deserve special attention.
