The commune covers the area of 18,82 km2 and has approximately 14 000 inhabitants.
Numerous industrial plants operate in the area of the commune. There are also active mines with mineral resources, inter alia, the gravel pit in Wójcice and the Granite Mines (Kopalnie Granitu) in Kamienna Góra and Maciejowice.
Otmuchów is one of the most beautiful towns of Śląsk Opolski. It dates back to the Middle Ages. The castle of the bishops of Wroclaw from the XIII century, the baroque Church of Saint Nicholaus and Francis Xaver, the unique town hall with its sunclock, the Partnership square with a modern playground for children and the recreational-relaxational area SOLARIUM deserve the attention of visitors. Funs of water sports are welcome at the Otmuchowskie Lake.
